Elevating Prevention in Colorado (EPIC)
Elevating Prevention in Colorado (EPIC) is a community forum focused on Possibility, Power and Promise for young people in Northeast Denver.
EPIC aims to prevent youth substance use and reduce monthly use among young people who have already experimented. In Near Northeast Denver, this work addresses underlying conditions that affect health and well-being, including housing instability, limited economic opportunity, and community disconnection. Residents help shape a shared plan to address these challenges while building trust, connection, and community power. Together, the goal is to create neighborhoods where people can stay, return to, and belong.
Rooted in
Near Northeast Denver
EPIC serves the Near Northeast Denver communities of Clayton, Cole, Five Points, Park Hill, Skyland, and Whittier. Explore the map to see the neighborhoods where residents, youth, and local partners are coming together to shape this work. Together, we’re strengthening community connections, addressing barriers to health and stability, and creating conditions that help young people thrive.
Prevention Starts Upstream
Housing instability, limited economic opportunity, and community disconnection can affect young people’s health and well-being. EPIC invites residents to explore these underlying conditions and help shape solutions that strengthen:
Housing stability: Helping families remain rooted in their neighborhoods.
Economic opportunity: Addressing barriers to resources and basic necessities.
Connection and belonging: Building relationships grounded in trust, care, and respect.
Community power: Ensuring residents help guide the decisions that affect their lives.
Housing Health Impact Assessment
DMCI’s Northeast Denver Health Impact Assessment examined how housing affordability pressures affect health, well-being, and displacement across nine historically Black neighborhoods. Guided by residents’ experiences and priorities, the assessment identified strategies to reduce displacement, improve health, and ensure communities benefit from future investment. These findings help inform the conversations and community planning moving forward through EPIC.
