Financial Education Action Committee Meeting #7
Action Committees are partner-driven action-oriented meetings that focus on the details of creating systemic change in the neighborhood.
The action committee follows a continuous improvement process that will result in the implementation of evidence-based strategies, designed to eliminate financial education root causes, in Park Hill. Action committee members consist of individuals who Live, Learn, Work, Play, or Worship in Park Hill.
The committee is taking action in order to:
Spread financial knowledge and resources through the influence of trusted community members in the Park Hill community to enhance the financial abilities of individuals and small businesses.
Eliminate the following root causes: 1) Stigma - Social stigma surrounding financial literacy prevents local, small business owners and residents of Northeast Park Hill from gaining financial stability and success; 2) Training and Resources - Financial education training and resources are not readily available or relevant to local, small business owners and residents of Northeast Park Hill; and 3) Financial Products/Services - Local, small business owners and residents of Northeast Park Hill are not provided with financial opportunities by traditional financial institutions due to perceived high risk.
On May 21st, the committee dug deeper into the pre-implementation work of the Train-the-Trainers financial education model: Experts (Trainers) > Trusted Community Members (Trainees) > Community Members In Need (End Users).
We identified trusted community members that we would like to recruit as trainees,
We discussed ideas on the trainee Recruitment Plan,
We brainstormed training topics,
We identified the general end user audiences for the topics, and
We identified possible experts who could train on the topics.
Based on the committee’s recommendation, PHCI developed and distributed an informal Request for Proposals (RFP) to possible expert trainers. At the next meeting, the action committee will review trainer and trainee recruitment, discuss training modalities, and explore estimated costs and system needs. If you would like to join the action committee, please contact Daniel Archuleta at Daniel@dmcimpact.org or 720-580-0198. Our next meeting is Thursday, May 28, 2020, 2:00-3:30 PM, via Google Hangouts.
